Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 72 - 80; Anal soft rays: 56 - 64; Vertebrae: 62 - 64. Distinguished from Southeast Asian congeners, except Clarias batrachus and C. insolitus in having a narrow frontal fontanel. Differs from C. batrachus in possessing more anal-fin rays (56-64 vs. 47-58) and a broader snout and from C. insolitus in having a wider head (17.4-18.3% SL vs. 14.0-15.6) and a smaller distance between the occipital process and the dorsal fin (7.2-7.5% SL vs. 10.3-12.4) (Ref. 55369).
