Vertebrae: 40 - 41. Differs from all other species of the genus by the number of cusps on the row of internal premaxilla teeth (3-5 vs. 5-7 except Hemibrycon surinamensis), the number of predorsal scales (10-12 vs.12-17, except Hemibrycon jelskii and Hemibrycon orcesi ), and by postcleithrum 1 much closer to postcleithrum 2 (vs. postcleithrum 1 and 2 clearly separated).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00955 (0.00443 - 0.02057), b=3.06 (2.88 - 3.24), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.0   ±0.4 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
