Etymology: Bathycongrus: Greek, bathys = deep + Latin, conger = conger (Ref. 45335)parapolyporus: The name parapolyporus (latinized Greek, para – near to, polys – many, porus – pore) reflects similarity of this species to B. polyporus (Ref. 80682).

A species of the genus Bathycongrus with a filiform caudal body end, 5–6 supraorbital, 7–8 infraorbital, 11 preoperculo-mandibular and one supratemporal pores of the head. The dorsal fin originates behind the vertical of the middle of the pectoral fin. Vert. 158–160, and 41–42 precaudal vertebrae. There are 53–57 dorsal fin rays before the vertical of the anal fin origin. Lateral line pores in front of anal opening 31–33. The body is elongated, cylindrical, and compressed from the sides in the caudal part. (Ref. 80682).
