Western Indian Ocean: known only from Kenya to South Africa. Presence in Somalia to be confirmed (Ref. 30573).

Found in silty protected reefs, over sand and rubble (Ref. 9710). Feeds on benthic algae. Also caught with nets and other artisanal gear. Mainly sold fresh.
