Africa: lower and middle Congo River basin (Ref. 78218), but also reported from the entire Congo River basin (Ref. 3820).

Inhabits forest streams. Stomach content analysis revealed a quantity of decayed plant material as well as insect larvae (Ref. 415802, 78218).
