Short description
Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics
Distinguished from the sympatric Coregonus albula, the geographically close Coregonus lucinensis and the spring spawning Coregonus trybomi by: scales in lateral line 69-77 + 3; interorbital distance 25-30% of dorsal head length; head width between dorsal end of opercular openings 8.2-9.7% SL; body depth at dorsal fin origin 16.4-21.2% SL; length of last gill raker in upper branch of first gill arch 120-186% of opposite outer gill filament; 11-18% of dorsal head length; pelvic and pectoral fins hyaline; slow growth, mature females 8.7-12.6 cm SL (Ref. 52872).
Found in lakes, inhabiting deep water layers of 20-60 m. Undertakes migration above 20 m at night (Ref. 59043). Most abundant below 20 m depth (Ref. 52872). Syntopic with Coregonus albula in Lake Stechlin (Ref. 52872). Feeds mainly on Cladocera and Copepoda (Ref. 59043).
