Short description Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7 - 8; Vertebrae: 21. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: body slender body; and strongly narrow frontals; mesethmoid short, with anterior tip poorly developed, smaller than 50% of bone length; pectoral spine posterior margin with serrations directed towards spine tip or perpendicularly oriented; infraorbital 2 only in contact with sphenotic; ventral laminar expansion of infraorbital 1 is poorly or moderately developed. Colouration: flank midline covered by small dark brown or black saddles with similar size to remaining markings on body; body with relatively larger, scarcer and more sparsely distributed dark brown or black spots; flank midline without stripe; entire surface of caudal fin with conspicuous dark brown or black spots (Ref. 122129).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Facultative air-breathing (Ref. 126274); Occurs in lotic habitats that have muddy-brown water with clay and sandy substrata. Most specimens were captured in the small forest streams of black or clearwater, or in marginal ponds (Ref. 122129).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = No PD50 data   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.02239 (0.00916 - 0.05471), b=3.03 (2.84 - 3.22), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.0   ±0.3 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
