Dorsal spines (total): 1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7. Diagnosis: Lower lip with pointed, crenulate, triangular fleshy projections lateral to the medial notch. Caudal peduncle is comparatively shallow (15.7-18.9% SL). Dorsal fin often with 1 unbranched and 7 branched rays. Head depth small 18.7-21.3% SL; short first dorsal-fin ray 14.5-19.5% SL; maxillary barbels reaching lower lateral series plate 18-24 (Ref. 56211).
Obligate air-breathing (Ref. 126274); Lives in streams that are permanently flowing and well-oxygenated (Ref. 56211).
