Obligate air-breathing (Ref. 126274); Occurs in ditches, small ponds, and peats. Most common in standing or stagnant water that has a dense cover of floating plants and may sometimes has low oxygen levels. Feeds on zooplankton and aquatic insects (Ref. 12693).
