Etymology: Corcyrogobius: Greek, korkyra, kerkyra = the present island of Corfú + Latin, gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Johann Maria Franz Placidus (1840–1929), Prince Johann II of Liechtenstein (1858–1929) was a prominent patron of the arts and sciences during his long reign (70 years). The etymology says he was honoured for his support of the natural sciences. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
