背棘 (總數) : 17 - 18; 背的軟條 (總數) : 10 - 11; 臀棘: 3; 臀鰭軟條: 9 - 10; 脊椎骨: 32. Diagnosis: distinguished by the prominence of the posterior part of the mid-lateral and the anterior part of the dorsolateral stripes; further distinguished from P. spilonotus by the lower number of gill rakers (Ref. 267).
一個中等大小的種有形狀類似的被已知來自一些標本測定的向上到 135 mm SL 的黑色素圖案。 區別的特徵為後面的部份的突起了那側面中央的與背外側斑紋的較前端而且進一步與鰓耙的下面數字的 P. spilonotus 區分了。 尾鰭新月狀的。
Mainly found on rocky areas cleared of sediment. Feeds on eggs (Ref. 5595).
