Short description
Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics
Numerous (15-27) blotches on midlateral row, small and roundish, often fused into an irregular stripe. Black spots at caudal base small but clearly visible, located on equal distance the size of their diameter. Dorsal and ventral adipose crests on caudal peduncle similarly developed. Presence of a dark spot on lower lip. At least one row of small spots directly below midlateral blotches.
A short-lived species. Adults inhabit lakes and lowland water courses with little current (Ref. 12291), on silt bottom with little aquatic vegetation (Ref. 59043). Feed on invertebrates. Oviparous, with distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Age at first maturity: about 2 years (Ref. 59043). Population is threatened by pollution and habitat destruction (Ref. 26100). However, recent assessment of threat: least concern (Ref. 59043).
