Ecology
Freshwater; pelagic; pH range: 7.5 - 8.5; dH range: ? - 20; non-migratory. Tropical; 26°C - 29°C (Ref. 13614)
South America: small coastal drainages of the Venezuelan departments Delta Amacuro, Monagas, Territorio Federal and in Brazilian states of Amapá and Pará; Guamá and Tocantins River basins; Cuyuni, Mazaruni, Essequibo and Corantijn River basins.
Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 3.3 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 35237)
Lives in schools of about several dozen individuals, in muddy creeks or along the sandy-muddy edge of shallow estuarine zones. Sometimes stays motionless at the surface and prefers to seek shelter beneath floating plants. Fertilization is internal (Ref. 35237). Several days after fertilization, females lay eggs individually on aquatic plants. 7 cm male 8 cm female max TL (Ref. 026130, needs confirmation). Not a seasonal killifish (Ref. 27139).
Life cycle and mating behavior
Maturity | Reproduction | Spawning | Eggs | Fecundity | Larvae
1 - 2 eggs are visible through the transparent body of the female. Viviparity is facultative, as the eggs can be laid prematurely and be attached to plants (Ref. 35237).
