Freshwater; benthopelagic. Tropical
Africa: Fouta Djalon region in Guinea (upper Gambia, Bafing, upper Konkouré and the upper basins of the Little Scarcies rivers) (Ref. 2940, 81282). Also known from the rivers of Guinea Bissau (Ref. 2801). Ref. 13331 also reports species in Géba and Kolenté (Great Scarcies) rivers.

Dorsal soft rays (total): 10; Anal soft rays: 8. Diagnosis: last simple dorsal-fin ray smooth on hind margin; scale formula 5.5/25-29/4.5; 1.5 scales between lateral line and pelvic-fin base; 9-10 scales around caudal peduncle; lateral-line scales equal in size to the normal scales; 7 branched dorsal fin rays; no barbels; lateral line incomplete, deeply depressed below dorsal fin; maximum reported size 47 mm SL (Ref. 2940, 81282).
Affinities: B. pobeguini (with barbels) (Ref. 2940). Maximum TL was recorded at 5.8 cm (Ref. 2801).
