Etymology: Melamphaes: Greek, melan, -anos = black + Greek, amphi = both side (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Jan Ebeling is the wife of the author, Alfred W Ebeling (q.v.). She was honoured for having sorted the first specimens of this species from collections made during the Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s Eastropic Expedition (1955). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
