Eye diameter at least 1.6 times in snout length and interorbital width; anterior barbel longer than 1.1 times eye diameter; golden yellowish; heavy pharyngeal jaws, with large crushing teeth; often a large anal opening.
Occurs over muddy, sandy and rocky substrates, especially in the shore areas of the lake, almost exclusively in water shallower than 6 m. A specialized macro-molluskivore. Especially bivalves up to 5 cm, and to a lesser extent gastropod snails have been found in its intestine (Ref. 35835).
