Adults inhabit flat or sloping sand bottoms with sparse coral outcrops (Ref. 31106), where they make burrows amongst rubble for nesting (Ref. 48636). Found solitary (usually juveniles) or in pairs (adults), hovering a short distance from the bottom (Ref. 31106). Likely to feed on zooplankton (Ref. 31106).
