Etymology: hiramatsui: Named after W. Hiramatsu, who collected the type specimens of this species (Ref. 75057).
Eponymy: Professor Cornelius Jan van der Horst (1889–1951) was a Dutch zoologist who moved to South Africa (1928) and became Head of the Zoology Department, Witwatersrand University, Johannesburg. [...] Wataru Hiramatsu was working at the Laboratory of Marine Biology, Kochi University when he collected the eponymous goby. Among his publications is: First record of the blenniid fish Laiphognathus multimaculatus from Japan (1990). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
