Preopercular spine single, long, bayonet-like, reaching to or past rear opercular margin, accessory spine lacking. Caudal fin emarginate, upper lobe longest, bearing an elongate filament. Dorsal and anal fin rays usually 13. Lateral line scales often about 94.
