Dorsal spines (total): 10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14 - 15; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 7. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: 14-16 total gill rakers (GR) on first arch including rudiments; snout length is rather small, 11.8-13 % SL; upper jaw large, 18.8-23.2% SL; pectoral fins long, 35.3-38.8% SL, pelvic fins, 26.8-27.4 % SL; pelvic fins do not reach anal fin; body colour basically dark brown with anterior violet speckles, lines, and a well-marked dot over the rear edge of opercle, no distinct dark spots (nose, pectoral-fin base, and caudal peduncle) (Ref. 92994).
