Inhabits the relatively exposed sandy beaches near dense stands of submerged and emergent plants (Ref. 4983). The stomachs of the specimens which were examined contained an unidentifiable sludge, insect remains, Ephemeroptera pupae and Diptera larvae, and post-larval fish (fragmentary but identifiable as cichlids) (Ref. 558).
