Dorsal spines (total): 10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 7; Vertebrae: 26. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: D X,5, fourth dorsal-fin spine longest and no fleshy flaps on dorsal-fin spines; pectoral rays 13, all unbranched; branched caudal-fin rays 8 + 7; lateral line scales 28 (including intermittent and terminal pitted scales); circumpeduncular scales 12; preopercle without antrorse spines or serrations ventrally, with 2–3 weak serrations or crenulations posteriorly (Ref. 117635).
This species is only known from Izu Ocean Park, where it has been collected and photographed on rocky reefs at depths of 48-60 meters (Ref. 117635)
