P. filamentosa reaches a greater size than the Copella species. Eschmeyer, 1998:578; Planquette, Keith, LeBail, 1996:180.

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Frequently found in shallow creeks with little current. Found together with Copella carsevennensis and various Rivulus. Is an omnivore; terrestrial insects that fall into the water constitute an essential part of its food (Ref. 12225). Is considered a calm fish even if it frequently jumps out of the water. In captivity, the spawned eggs are stuck to the lower surface of emergent leaves or on glass close to the surface (Ref. 27188).
