Issue
As can be seen by the numerous common names shared by this and the Copella species, they are commonly collected together in small streams and backwaters throughout the countries listed above. P. filamentosa reaches a greater size than the Copella species. Eschmeyer, 1998:578; Planquette, Keith, LeBail, 1996:180.

Frequently found in shallow creeks with little current. Found together with Copella carsevennensis and various Rivulus. Is an omnivore; terrestrial insects that fall into the water constitute an essential part of its food (Ref. 12225). Is considered a calm fish even if it frequently jumps out of the water. In captivity, the spawned eggs are stuck to the lower surface of emergent leaves or on glass close to the surface (Ref. 27188).
