Etymology: Blachea: Named for J. Blanche, in recognition of his many contributions to the knowledge on anguilliform fishes, both adults and larvae; xenobranchialis: Name from the Greek 'xenos' (= strange) and 'branchos' (= gill), referring to the unique free branchiostegals; an adjective.
