Africa: Cunene, Okavango (Ref. 52193, 120641), upper Zambezi (Ref. 52193, 95585) and Kafue (Ref. 95585). Also known from southern tributaries of the Congo system (Ref. 52193), including Mweru-Luapula and Bangweulu-Chambeshi (Ref. 95585).

Épines dorsales (Total) : 3; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 8 - 9; Épines anales: 3; Rayons mous anaux: 5 - 6. Anterior barbel short, about quarter eye diameter; posterior barbel also short, about half eye diameter (Ref. 13337). Well-defined spots on flanks (Ref. 122753).
Inhabits shallow calm waters amongst vegetation, along the river edge (Ref. 13337). Ripe adults were caught undertaking upstream migration on a possible spawning run in mid summer after the first rise in water level (Ref. 13337).
