The most recent distributional records were published by Weitzman & Weitzman (1982: Fig. 229). The most recent systematic description is by Weitzman & Cobb (1975). Occasionally exported as an aquarium fish with various small tetragonopterines and Nannostomus espei from Guyana. This species is now the second smallest species of Nannostomus, the smallest being Nannostomus anduzei. See Weitzman et al. (2001) and Bork & Mayland (1998).
