Eastern Central Pacific: from Galapagos (B. lineatus lineatus), Clipperton Is. (as B. lineatus arundelli), and Lobos de Afuera, small islands about 40 mi off northern Peru (B. lineatus lupinus).

Pectoral rays 19-21; uppermost five rays more or less free from membrane, first to fourth branching only once; pelvic disc elliptical, reaching at least four-fifths to part of fin pale; second dorsal fin with dark and pale bands; anal fin dusky, with with dark line proximal to white distal edge; caudal fin with dark markings more or less defined (Ref. 87607).
Collected from intertidal rock-pools, where this species is said to dominate the shallow tidepool habitat (Ref. 87607).
