Ekologi
laut bentopelagis; oceanodromus (Ref. 51243); kisaran kedalaman 20 - 300 m (Ref. 4412), usually 20 - 100 m (Ref. 52180). Tropical; 36°N - 34°S, 22°E - 180°E
Indo-Pacific: South Africa to the Persian Gulf east to the Indo-Malayan region up to Moala, Fiji, and north to Japan.

Duri punggung (Keseluruhan (total)) : 10 - 13; duri punggung lunak (Keseluruhan (total)) : 14 - 16; Duri dubur: 3; Sirip dubur lunak: 13 - 15. Silvery with purple tinge. Fins grayish.
Occurs in small schools in areas with muddy substrates on the continental shelf and upper slope. Feeds mainly on zooplankton. Appears to be pelagic at night and demersal by day and may migrate seasonally. Marketed fresh or dried-salted (Ref. 3300).
Oviparous, gonochorous, with pelagic eggs (Ref. 101194).
