Spine dorsali (totale) : 0; Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 108 - 113; Spine anali: 0; Raggi anali molli: 84 - 89. Similar to A. japonicus, but differs from it by having larger values for meristic characters, ctenoid scales on ocular side, shorter distance between dorsal margin of head and eye about 1/3 of eye diameter, and a dark blotch on pectoral and pelvic fins. The male has an elongated 2nd dorsal ray and a darker blotch on the paired fins.
