This species is characterized by the following: scales in longitudinal series 77-87, transverse series 29-36, predorsal scales 28-44; 3 pairs of sensory papillae in row f; modal ray count of second dorsal fin I,11; modal AP 3; modal vertebrae count 14+19; dorsal fins dark brown with indistinct black blotches with second dorsal fin with white margin; caudal and anal fins dark brown with white margin; pectoral fins dusky, no distinct bands; body and head dark brown, mottled with lighter areas and, in life, white spots; caudal fin base with an indistinct dark blotch (Ref. 81467).
