Diagnosis: snout longer than B. lepturus, and subadults deeper bodied (Ref. 55954).
Coloration: dark band on the lateral line; subadults typically yellow (Ref. 55954).
Found over muddy bottoms in shallow, sheltered bays. Also occurs over sandy areas off beaches. Juveniles inhabit very shallow sandy shores. Feeds on fish (Ref. 5595).
