Etymology: Acentrogobius: Greek, a = without + Greek, kentron = sting + Latin gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Dr A K J L W Pflaum was a Surgeon Major in the Royal Dutch East Indies Army who had been stationed at Samarang, Celebes (Sulawesi). He provided Pieter Bleeker with the type specimen of the goby. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
