Dorsal spines (total): 12 - 21; Dorsal soft rays (total): 6 - 9; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 23 - 27. Snout long, tubular. Lower jaw projecting forward beyond upper one. No barbel on lower jaw. A short barbel is present on the posterior end of the upper jaw. Branchial membranes free from isthmus.
