North America: upper Green River drainage in Kentucky and Tennessee, USA; 1 record from Roaring River (Cumberland River drainage) in Tennessee (Ref. 86798). Individuals from the Duck River originally allocated to N. elegans are N. fasciatus, the latter restricted to the Duck River system and two minor tributaries of the lower arm of the Tennessee River, Tennessee (Ref. 56218).
