Etymology: Trogloglanis: Greek, trogle = hole + Greek, glanis a fish that can eat the bait without touching the hook; a cat fish (Ref. 45335); pattersoni: Troglo (Greek)=a hole or cave; glanis (Greek)=a kind of fish; pattersoni, named after Professor J.T. Patterson, of the University of Texas, who secured the specimen referred to by Eigenmann (1919) from San Antonio Texas (Ref. 79012).
