Etymology: aquali: From the Cherokee "agaquali", meaning cheek (referring to the diagnostic copper colored markings on the cheek (Ref. 10294).

Occurs in clear, fast rocky riffles of small to medium rivers (Ref. 5723, 10294). Feeds on hydropsychid caddis larvae, midge larvae, mayfly nymphs, blackfly larvae, and a wide variety of additional aquatic insect immatures plus a few snails (Ref. 10294).
