Body robust and of moderate depth. Males with long gonopodium, but not reaching base of tail. Each side with 4 (rarely 3 or 5) round or oval black blotches the size of the pupil (Ref. 36880).
Collected from two creeks with slow current and from a small stagnant puddle at 40 m elevation; at temperatures between 26-34°C. Swims in small aggregations among vegetation or in shallow waters. Feeds on diatoms, desmids and detritus (Ref. 36880). Observed to occur in 10 to 50 cm deep (Ref. 26130).
