Etymology: Ituglanis: Greek, itys, ityos = circle + Greek, glanis = a fish that can eat the bait without touching the hook; a cat fish (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Not a true eponym, as it is named after the botanical genus Eichhornia (water hyacinth). The holotype was caught amongst this type of plant. The genus is named after Johann Albrecht Friedrich von Eichhorn (1779–1856), a Prussian statesman. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
