Distinguished from congeners from the Orinoco and Lake Maracaibo basins by having two or three multicuspid teeth on maxilla and four or fewer smaller lateral teeth present on dentary (Ref. 86277).
Feeds on benthic aquatic invertebrates, as well as terrestrial invertebrates which fall into the water, such as ants, wasps and bees (Ref. 26543).
