Description synthétique Clés d'identification | Morphologie | Morphométrie

Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 11 - 12; Rayons mous anaux: 9; Vertèbres: 36. Is uniquely diagnosed by the presence of 10 to 14 oblique bars on the sides of the body, extending posteroventrally from the lateral line and independent of the 8 or 9 dorsal transverse bars which are usually present in species of Characidium. Is also distinguished from other species of Characidium from southern Brazil, except C. pterostictum, by the spotted caudal fin. From C. pterostictum, it is easily distinguished by the number (12) of series scales around the caudal peduncle (14 in C. pterostictum). Fourth ray of pectoral fin ray longest, not reaching or just reaching to pelvic fin origin. Third or fourth ray of pelvic fin longest, reaching area between anal opening and anal fin origin (Ref. 27672).
