Fewer anal rays (8-10) and exterior gill rakers on first gill arch (7-9); small number of lateral lines scales; terminal mouth; color pattern consisting of a blackish longitudinal stripe along the middle of body and usually with dark dots on, above or below the stripe.
Inhabits creeks or small pools formed by flood.
