Distinguished from all its congeners by the following combination of characters: truncate caudal fin; presence of 4 serrae along posterior edge of pectoral spine; slightly concave lateral margins of the head when viewed dorsally; eyes located laterally with a suborbital depression; body depth at anus 8.9-13.5% SL; depth of caudal peduncle 6.1-8.6% SL; length of dorsal-fin base 13.1-22.1% SL; length of adipose-fin base 18.4-25.2% SL; and eye diameter 14-20% HL (Ref. 30226).
