Etymology: Selenanthias: Greek, selene = the moon + Greek, anthis = a fish, Sparus aurata (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Monsieur Barro collected the type from the ‘R/V Vauban’ which is operated by IRD (formely ORSTOM) based in Noumea. The etymology says: “L’espèce a été dédiée à M. Barro qui l’a récoltée a bord du R/V Vauban.” Unfortunately, no first name is given. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
