The suborbital often separated from preopercle; it is clearly demarcated by free lower edge, but sometimes partly attached to cheek with its lower border obscured by scales.
Found in rocky reefs exposed to surge (Ref. 11482). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).
