Saccopharynx berteli differs from all other species by the anterior position of the origin of the dorsal and anal fins (predorsal length 9.3 % and preanal length 11.5 % of TL); origin of "white lines" closer to snout than to pectoral fins; caudal organ slender and simple; nine body filaments longer than 1.5 mm and no isolated spots of photogenic tissue in front of caudal region; dorsal fin rays 235+; anal fin rays 257+ (Ref. 36344).
