背的軟條 (總數) : 7 - 9; 臀鰭軟條: 8 - 12; 脊椎骨: 35 - 37. Body deep. Nuptial males with greatly elevated dorsal and anal fins and a distal black caudal spot, deeper than long or vertically oval. Anal fin, when depressed, reaches to or beyond caudal fin base.
Inhabits sand-bottomed and silt-bottomed pools and runs of headwaters, creeks, and small rivers, Usually occurs along undercut banks and debris (Ref. 86798). Reported maximum length is 6.5 TL (Ref. 86798).
