Etymology: Nomorhamphus: Greek, nema = filament + Greek, rhamphos = bill, peak (Ref. 45335); rossi: Named for Charles ‘Andy’ Ross, herpetologist, who collected all the specimens of this species.

Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 10 - 12; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 14 - 17; Ryggkotor: 39 - 41. This species is distinguished by the following characters: the second anal-fin ray in males in which segment five is greatly elongate, comprising one half of the ray; spiculus is thick, unsegmented distally; it is offset dorsally at about one fourth its length, with distal tip pointed ventrally (Ref. 44897).
