Etymology: Acyrtus: Greek, a = without + Greek, kyrtos, -e, -on = bent + Greek, ops = shape (Ref. 45335);  pauciradiatus: Specific name derived from Latin 'pauciradiatus', meaning having few rays, in reference to the dorsal, anal and pectoral fin rays, which have fewer rays than the other members of the genus..
