Etymology: Placidochromis: Latin, placidus = of peaceful or tranquile appearance + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335); orthognathus: From the Greek "orthos" = erect and "gnathos" = jaw, referring to its strongly upward gape (Ref. 55898).
